What's the purpose of reading? If not to develop new mindsets and evolve into a stronger self.
As you mindlessly turn from page to page, are you even learning?
When you think about what you read, and apply new principles into your real life, that's active learning. That's what the Positive Library Reading Tracker is for.
The Positive Library Reading Tracker is designed not to just improve your life on a daily basis, but to also let you reflect on those improvements and track your progress over time. Best of all, it's completly free for you.
You already read books and online articles, perhaps you also read magazines, science journals, or even poetry. Every once in a while you stumble upon some good piece of information, something which is helpful to your daily life.
The Positive Library Reading Tracker is designed to help you retain that information. You get to write down and remember the useful wisdom, so that you can apply it daily.
“Books are the quietest and most constant of friends; they are the most accessible and wisest of counselors, and the most patient of teachers.”
- By Charles William Eliot
We suggest that you read from at least 3 different authors a day. Soaking in ideas and mindsets from diverse points of views. This allows you to form your own opinions, rather than give in to a single author's mindsets.
“Be as careful of the books you read, as of the company you keep; for your habits and character will be as much influenced by the former as the latter.”
- Paxton Hood
The Reading Tracker is limited to 3 actionable ideas per day. Three ideas are the easiest for you to remember and act upon as you deal through all the hassles and stresses the day throws at you.
An actionable idea should be something which you can act upon, something which you have control over. When reading a book, or anything for that matter, you must find something you can do within the next 24 hours which will improve your life and direct you towards your dreams, goals, or desires.
It's good to learn and absorb information which will help you a few weeks, months, or even years from now, but what matters is if you are taking charge of your life on a daily basis.
What matters most right now are the ideas that will change your life today and tomorrow. Not a year from now, not a month from now, not even a week from now. What changes you today will completely change the outcome of next week.
“Books don't change people; paragraphs do, Sometimes even sentences.”
- John Piper
Once you have found the three ideas, you may start to fill out the Reading Tracker. Listing the "Title" and "Author" from where you learned the wisdom
The "Type" field is filled out with the type of content, was it a book, an article, science journal, a poem, a screen write, an eBook, etc.
Next is the "Actionable Idea" field. Here you will fill out your to-do action for the day. This might be "Do 100 jumping jacks" or "Smile at 10 strangers." or "Start a habit of waking up at 5 in the morning."
To keep track of your progress, the Reading Tracker has a weekly summary. At the end of every week, you get to write a summary reflecting on how the week went. How your new knowledge helped or hindered your situations. Which opportunities you took, as well as the opportunities you missed. And what you're grateful for that happened during the week.
Now that you are set to read and learn and live and succeed, here is one last quote to keep in mind:
"If you only read the books that everyone else is reading,
you can only think what everyone else is thinking."
- Haruki Murakami
Keep reading my friends.
