I was sorting through boxes of old stuff and I found a few of my high school assignments. One of which I had to share what I thought about the following proverb:
Here was my response:
This shows that there is a positive and a negative side to everything. We can train ourselves to look at the positive in everything and avoid resentment. This aphorism does a great job in motivation us to change our thinking patterns and habits in order to enjoy as many moments in life as we can.
It also shows how there are ups and downs in life. We must learn to deal with everything that happens around us.
The rose’s thorns protect it from predators, while its beauty attracts insects to spread the pollen and help it reproduce successfully. Every system has positives and negatives that help it survive in the world. The overall message of the proverb would be that even though both good and bad are necessary, we can choose to view as much as we can as being positive while accepting that the negatives have to be present to accentuate the positives.
